Pittie Info

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.  ~ Author Unknown

The term “pit bull” is not a specific breed of dog, rather a generic term that has come to encompass three breeds: the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and mixes thereof.  In fact, many different breeds and mixes can be mis-identified as “pit bulls” simply because of block shaped head and stocky build.  For our purposes, we will refer to all of the pit bull breeds and mixes as “pit bull type dogs” or when we’re feeling lazy, “pitties.”

Famous Pit Bull Lovers

Here is an amazing article written by one woman, who never thought she could love a “vicious killer dog” like a pit bull, but who’s eyes were opened to the wonderful family pet they can be when she fell in love with a sweetie named Nola:

Licked to Death by a Pit Bull

This page is a work in progress where we can add information and resources for pit bull owners, as well as for readers who want to learn a little more about them, as we come across it.

First of all, pit bulls are domestic dogs like any other domestic dog. They are not always the right dog for every family. We as humans have created the very characteristics that we read about in the news. Pit bulls are not born aggressive. We as people make them that way. If properly socialized and raised they make amazing pets.

    • Couldn’t agree more! No breed of dog is the “right dog” for every family, anyone interested in adding a furry four-legged member to their pack should do their own research and consider their activity level and lifestyle before making the commitment.
